  • Description: If golden anniversaries did not exist, Walt Disney might have created them himself. As most people who watch television, read newspapers or listen to radio know by now, Disneyland is about to kick off the celebration of its 50th anniversary with a yearlong blowout. Conceived and nurtured by Walt Disney himself in his legendary hands-on style, Disneyland has become the template for a theme park empire that now includes Walt Disney World Resort, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Paris and Disney's newest park, Hong Kong Disneyland, scheduled to open in September. Disney's canny combination of vision, innovation and smart marketing enabled him to craft a park that he hoped would stand apart from its competitors. The growth of the Disney parks actively continues today, with new parks, hotels and attractions constantly being added.
